Thornbury Town Falcons Under-9 boys kicked off their season with three friendly six-a-side fixtures at home against Slimbridge. The aggregate score was 6-3 to the Falcons. The first game was really entertaining with the Falcons boys showing that they have really progressed since the end of last season. There were a lot of good flowings moves and link-up play from all the boys, with some good passing and calling in evidence. Toby Rogers scored two good goals to seal a 2-0 win. The second game was a much more end-to-end contest, with manager Peter Tuodolo taking the opportunity to change the team completely. There were chances for both sides, including a close effort from Luke Cumber, but Falcons just couldn’t manage to land a blow. Slimbridge ran out 2-0 winners. The third game resulted in a 4-1 win for the Falcons, but there were a few nervous moments early on. The game was hard fought and captain Leighton Tuodolo opened the scoring for the Falcons in the first half, only for Slimbridge to level before half-time. Overall, though, Falcons tackling and work-rate enabled them to gain dominance as the game went on. Leigton got his second goal and there was also a brace from Harry Baker, the pick of which was lashed in with his left foot after a solo run from the half-way line. Manager Peter Toudolo was pleased with the boys. ‘They have all been trying hard in training and it was good to see them doing the same on the pitch. I am looking forward to this season very much, where we will be playing our first ever league fixtures.’ |
